New Vernon Garden Club Wins First Prize for Drumthwacket Holiday Dining Room Design Christmas centerpiece ideas are not always easy to come by, and for Barbara Harrison of Harding Township, decorating the dining room at Drumthwacket seemed a little like being on a reality TV show. Earlier this month, Harrison and five other New Vernon Garden Club members found themselves in friendly competition with gardening groups from Essex Fells, Somerset Valley, Neshanic, Hunterdon Hills, Spring Lake and Montville/Valhalla. Each club was charged with decorating one of seven rooms and the front porch of the official governor’s residence in Princeton. While area garden clubs typically volunteer to install holiday decorations at the house and museum whose name derives from Scottish Gaelic words meaning “wooded hill,” this year’s theme, Homemade Holidays - New Jersey Style, came with the challenge of impressing judges and the public for the title of best room. |

New Vernon Garden Club will Maintain, Landscape New Library Grounds. “The Observer Tribune.” “Fresh from decorating downtown New Vernon and Drumthwacket for the holidays, the New Vernon Garden Club has turned its attention to the grounds of the new library. At the Township Committee’s Dec. 16 meeting, Nancy McClelland, the garden club’s library landscaping chair, presented the committee with the plan to plant- and maintain low-maintenance trees and shrubs around the new library.”
