EDUCATIONAL OPPORTUNITIES

New Vernon Garden Club members head the two major educational venues for gardeners in the State: the Garden Study School and the Garden Club of New Jersey Landscape Design School. Both schools offer outstanding classes.

The Garden Study School, also sponsored by the Garden Club of New Jersey, covers important topics every discriminating gardener needs to know, from how to test your soil to plant propagation and more. The course meets in the fall for two days, with an extra half-day for those desiring to take the exam. Credits earned can be applied toward the Garden Study Consultant title.

The Landscape Design School offers a four-year program of classes that span such practical topics as Site Design and Land Form to the historical perspective found in Development of Landscape Design in Early America. Each course requires attending ten hours of lectures, reading assignments, and examinations for those wishing certification as an Accredited Landscape Critic. The time requirement each year is only two days for the classes and a morning for the exam, which is optional.
